Jawn is a testament to Philadelphia’s ingenuity and efficiency allowing us to cut right to the chase with just one word that’s applicable in any situation. This classic 80s/90s vintage snapback cap is inspired by the Sports Specialties hats that were super popular when we were growing up. A cap style rocked by the likes of NWA's Easy-E and other hardcore badasses in my grade school who used to pair it with their Charlotte Hornets Starter jackets, this hat is so retro that you'll wanna play Tecmo Bowl, trade baseball cards, and daydream about Kelly Kapowski.

like most slang that gets used unironically, “jawn” is aave. it’s black philadelphians’ version of the term “joint” that new yorkers say and the term “junt” that you’ll hear down in memphis.

as with most aave, however, it got co-opted by the masses and somehow became credited to the entire city, much how present-day aave gets called “internet slang” by people who fail to realize that some of us have been using those terms for years, and they only associate it with the internet because that’s the only place they see it used…since they don’t associate with us in real life.
